Dr. Avila is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.  He completed his residency at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine / Pediatrics.  Dr. Avila is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Pediatrics, and the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.  He is a current Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
